Parker Library

Corpus Christi College, Cambridge

Kilburn Nightingale's rehousing of the Parker Library for Corpus Christi College, Cambridge was opened by the Duke of Edinburgh on June 21st.

The project included the construction of a new secure vault for the unique collection of mediaeval illuminated manuscripts in the Grade 1 Listed Wilkins Building in the College's main court.

The vault, which provides the correct environmental conditions for the conservation of the manuscripts, takes the form of a free standing 'casket' encased with oak bookcases and patinated brass trim. An adjacent reading room with specially designed furniture provides accommodation for specialist readers.

The main contractor was Killby and Gayford Ltd and the project was completed on time and within budget.
